Preparing for the Creation and The First Day

Yesterday we prepared for our Creation Week by reviewing the Plan of Salvation. We had to be committed to the plan before there was any need to create the Earth.

We also made plans for some of the things we were going to create that week. Each child was assigned a day (or two) and asked to come up with a dessert to represent that day.  I had to talk down a few initial ideas (i.e. candy attached to a glider for the day birds were created).

My sister Kathryn and her kids joined us this afternoon to do Day One of the Creation.  We started by reading Genesis 1:1-5.  I gave each kiddo a #1 page (from this idea) and they colored it to represent light and darkness.

Next we went outside to play a game and see what it would be like to do simple tasks without any light. The kids took turns being blindfolded and doing things like going down the slide, jumping on the trampoline, and picking up a ball.

Then we played a few rounds of Light-Dark (Marco-Polo). This was a little counterproductive since everyone wanted to be the "Dark" player and they kept allowing themselves to be caught.

 Tonight for FHE we talked about how knowledgeable Heavenly Father and Jesus must have been to create the world. We took the kids to the library and let them pick out a few non-fiction books in topics that interest them. (We ended up with books on Reptiles, Electricity, Space, Dinosaurs, and Oceans.)

Kate had picked out a treat to represent darkness and light - Klondike bars. The chocolate coating was the darkness and when you took the darkness away there was light.
