Animals, Man, and Rest

It makes sense to me that animals and man were created on the Sixth Day. Sometimes I wonder if my kids are more monkey than human.

Colin's interpretation of animals and man.
Kate was in charge of the dessert for day six and she wanted to shape sugar cookie dough into animal models. Her original plan was to use toothpicks to create 3-D sculptures. It didn't take long to learn that cookie dough is not as dense as clay, but we were still able to create some cool creatures.

Kate made a turtle. Colin made a T-rex. Mason made a cheetah (running, of course). I made a snake with Adam's dough after he got frustrated and gave up.

I'm amazed at the array of animals God created and particularly amazed at the creation of man. Especially this little man...
For our Seventh Day we talked about the day of rest and celebrated Dad. (Have I mentioned how amazing my husband is? If I haven't you should call my house and listen to my answering machine. It is just a small indicator of how kind, loving, and thoughtful he is.)  After lunch Shem and I tried to take advantage of the "day of rest" part.

Mason's interpretation of people resting.
Just before I went down for a nap I gave the older kids this activity in hopes it would encourage some quiet, reflective time.

When I woke up an hour later I walked into the family room to find Kate, Adam, and Mason circled together under the ceiling fan. The kids had made ninja throwing blades out of cardboard and attached yarn for easy retrieval. They were throwing them around the room when Adam's had become tangled in the ceiling fan. The yarn had wrapped into the fan tight enough to jam it. Adam had tried using the broom and the tongs. He had considered duct taping the tongs to the broom for a better reach. He had pulled the rolling office chair under the fan, stacked a plastic bin on top, and was about to climb up when I walked in.

A stern lecture from Dad, a flashlight, a ladder, scissors, and lots of unwinding were required to get everything undone. So much for a day of rest.

That sums it up, doesn't it? You're amazing.
