Helpful or Hazardous?

I've tried to let Kate help when I'm cooking; however, she only seems interested in the sugar that gets spilled on the counter when I'm making cookies.  Mason, on the other hand, will see me pull out the mixer or a big bowl and within seconds he has dragged a chair over to the counter to watch and help.

Such was the case last October when I was canning tomatoes.  It may not have been the safest thing to let a three-year-old scoop tomatoes out of boiling water, but he really wanted to try and was quite good at it.

Perhaps my culinary secrets (ha ha!) won't get passed down to my daughter, but rather to my son!

P.S.  We did finally get the stainless steel appliances at the end of October.  The kitchen looks so much better!
