Reflections on Magic

Both Kate and Adam entered the Reflections Contest this year. The theme was "The Magic of a Moment..." They both chose to create pieces of artwork.

The art is pretty good, but the essays are even better. 

Kate - Midnight Masterpiece

"My entry (the Midnight Masterpiece) relates to the theme because most people never know what does on in the night so it sort of gives a magic feature. So you never know where the crickets go when the night is over or where the stars fade away to , so to me the night is magic. 


"You never know what snowmen do at night because in the morning his hat fell off, his arms and carrot nose are on the ground and he's half melted! That's just one example there are many more."

"The way this is magic is it has a hole BUNCH of gadgets! Like computers, fuel tanks, speakers, spacesuits, satellites, rocket thrusters, chairs, screens, (sometimes rovers) and totally people (sometimes chimps. Chimps have gone to space you know?) Any way, another way that this is magic is how people build these things! I bet they can get 100 feet, maybe even taller! Like I said, they have a hole BUNCH of gadgets! It would take at least a month to make one! It weighs 4.5 million pounds! That’s amazing! The wingspan is 78 feet! Awesome! It goes 17,000 miles per hour! Wicked!

"It is also magic because it can get into space! I mean how CAN something that weighs 4.5 million pounds! Well, I have the answer. If you really want to find out what happens next, read ahead! Don’t stop! I insist! The answer is, it’s rocket thrusters. It’s rocket thrusters are so powerful and so hot they can kill 100 people on each launch!

"Have you ever been in a rocket? If yes, that’s awesome! If no, well, it’s okay. I know how you feel. I’ve never been in a rocket. That’s also how it’s magic. Few people have been in one.

"Well, goodbye. I hope you liked my entry form."

And for the icing on the cake - Kate got a "Principal's Choice Award!"
