There Is No Problem That Can't Be Solved By A Ninja Star

For Mason's 6th Birthday we had a Ninjago Party. Ninjago is one of the Lego lines. It is comprised of several ninjas (guided by Sensei Wu) that fight against Lord Garmadon and his skeleton and snake allies.

I found some amazing ideas here and here and started planning.  After being blown away by some pretty amazing parties, I decided to step up my game a little on the decorations (which isn't too hard since that is the area that I typically spend the least amount of time and money on).

It was all about the ninja eyes. The balloons were my favorite.
When Mason's ninja guests arrived they each got to choose a t-shirt for a ninja mask. Then they picked out balloons for katanas. Based on the noise level, these ninjas were not practiced in the art of stealth.
Mason was wearing his mask all morning then refused to wear it during the party.

Once everyone arrived we went straight to work defeating the bad guys.

The boys threw ninja stars at the villains. There was extra weight for Lord Garmadon, so he was especially difficult to knock over.

Next we went over to the table so the boys could use chopsticks to fill their bento boxes with snacks.

We played a few rounds of "Sensei Wu Says..."

...then enjoyed cupcakes and presents.

Each of the ninjas went home with a goodie bag with foam nunchucks, a ninjia star, a few fortune cookies, and chopsticks.

It was so fun to see Mason having a blast with his friends. There are so many boys his age in our ward and he is especially close with the boys that live on our street.

He has grown so much in the last year emotionally and intellectually. He can be so sweet and tender.  Some mornings he comes into my room just to get a hug to start his day. He loves to build with legos and play games on lego.com. He is a pro on his two-wheeler bike and loves to jump on the trampoline.

He is loving Kindergarten. Sometimes he gets a little rowdy in class, so every day he reports how he did with a thumbs up or thumbs down. (He loses his computer time if it is a "Thumbs Down Day.") He takes great pride in his thumbs up days (which are most days now). He is reading on a C level, which is a Kindergarten/1st Grade Level. I couldn't be more thrilled since we had a slow start with the whole alphabet thing. Almost every day I pick him up he yells goodbye to a cute little blonde classmate named Lilleigh.  His two favorite words (much to my chagrin) are diaper and "dicey." (At least we got him to stop saying "douchey" all the time.)

Mason is the looker in the family and I can't wait to see what he does with all his energy and emotion!
