Shem's sister NaKy and her two sons, Preston and Tanner, came to live with us in July. There arrival was swift, unexpected, and emotional. She was fleeing from an abusive relationship and as a family we felt her and her boys would be most safe in our home, with Shem's protection. We experienced some tender mercies as we willingly opened our home.
Just a few weeks before I had purchase two sets of mattresses and bed frames from a friend in the ward that was moving across the country. They were sitting in the basement. We were able to move Kate into Liam's room and have three beds set and ready before her flight landed.
I called my visiting teacher, Jenna Miller, and asked if she could contact an organization she has done service with called Hearts Knit Together. They provide kits with personal hygiene items, a blanket, and other gifts for women and children in domestic abuse situations. Jenna had three kits to my house within a few hours. And to make it even more sweet, the boys kits each contained a stuffed dog. This was particularly significant because the boys would be missing the dogs they had to leave behind.
We were able to help NaKy get the help she needed with medical and legal issues. I loved having her in our home, spending time together, and getting to know her better. She is so kind and loving. And when she gets stressed she likes to clean - BONUS!
We had lots of fun with Preston and Tanner joining our crew.

NaKy and I have grown so much closer through this experience and she now calls me her "Sister Wife." She has a job, a car, and some of her confidence back. We are excited for them to get settled more permanently at Grandma Nancy's house.
