The Bishop's Office: A Lego-tastic Birthday!

Last week we celebrated Adam's 7th Birthday with a fantastic Lego party.

The spread of food was all Lego themed from the marshmallow pop mini figure heads (marshmallows dipped in yellow chocolate then decorated with an edible pen - found the idea here) to the Lego ice cubes. I commissioned a local Lego wizard in my neighborhood to build a cupcake stand. It turned out great (did you see how he spelled Adam's name out in Legos?) and looked fantastic holding the cupcakes topped with the Lego chocolates I molded.

We started the party out with a little game of "Lego!" All the kids sat in a circle and followed my directions. ("Touch your nose." "Put your hands behind your back." "Close your eyes.") Then when I said "Lego!" they all tried to grab one of the Lego pieces in the middle. The two players with empty hands were eliminated.

This game proved to be a little too aggressive for some of the guests (which I found ironic since many of them started a wrestling match at the end of the party. Boys....sigh).

After the final grab we moved on to a relay race. Each person had to carry a Lego on a spoon across the yard and around the swings then deposit it into the dish. If the Lego dropped the player had to start over. The blue team won by a brick!

Next the party goers each built a Lego car. With a double elimination bracket we raced the cars down the slide.

The final race had a photo finish. (Great shot, Shem!)

Teegan (1st), Kaylee (2nd) and Neve (3rd) each got a mini figure for a prize. (That is, after Colin was done playing with them.)

We built towers out of Lego jigglers, opened presents, enjoyed cupcakes and ice cream, then sent our happy guests on their way with a green Lego bag filled with goodies. (I forgot to get a shot of the bags, but you can kind of see them in the basket in the picture above - each has six circles attached the front so it looks like a 2x3 Lego brick.)
