An Inspiring Take on the Royal Wedding

There is a couple in our ward, The Walkers, that is currently serving as the England MTC President and Matron.  They are absolutely amazing and I admire and look up to them in so many ways.  President and Sister Walker served, in recent years, as the President and Matron of the Salt Lake Temple.  Sister Kathleen Hinckley Barnes Walker also happens to be the oldest daughter of President Hinckley and has a similar sense of humor.

With that impressive introduction, I wanted to share this wonderful post she put on her blog last Friday:

"Today during the royal ceremony, the Arch Bishop of London made the statement, "Every wedding is a royal wedding." I thought of my own parents.....Today is the 74th anniversary of their wedding. (thoughtful of Will and Kate to pick this date in their honor.)

The royal wedding is a national holiday. Communities are having neighborhood parties. There will be 3 big formal parties that the couple will attend, 22 caterers, multitudes of dignitaries, and international coverage all at a cost of £20 million.

I can't help but contrast this with that wedding 74 years ago. On April 29, 1937 my royal couple went to the temple and there, in a quiet, unassuming, unnoteworthy event, they were married. No money, no reception, a borrowed dress and a quick honeymoon to Zion National Park! But what a life!!! More than any royal couple will ever know! "

I was feeling a little jealous of the wealth and privilege that are afforded to royalty, but this put things right into perspective.  I was married to my very own prince in one of the most beautiful temples in the world.  We made covenants to be a king and queen together in the next life.  And like President Hinckley and his dear wife Marjorie, together Shem and I will have happiness and glory!
