The Jury is Out

A guest post by Shem Bishop...

Finally, the end of a full week of jury duty. Click here for some background on the case. Its like Ive been on another planet and have just now come home. My heart goes out to both families, neither of which can be made whole. It's a reminder to me that terrible things happen to the best of us and, without intention, the best of us do terrible things. We have to be so careful, with ourselves and others. But most importantly, to love the people in our lives, let them know they're loved, and cherish every minute we've been given because, like this family, it can all change or be taken in a heartbeat.

With the difficulties and the feeling that my head was going to explode from all the info being shoved into it, there was a highlight. Sharing this burden & experience with 7 beautiful, amazing people that now I call friends. Every one of them brought something special that allowed us to do our job, but also made the in-between time a joy. That, I will miss. May God bless these families, these new friends and each of you.

What a sweet and tender post. Thanks Shem!

one thing though, that link goes to a story about a woman falling into a manhole..not sure if that's right or not?

That is the correct link. The case was a civil case filed by the Berrett family against the company that left the manhole open.

They were claiming negligence for the fall and the resulting medical expenses. Also for wrongful death (she died last year from complication with Alzheimer's - which they claimed was triggered by the fall). That didn't hold up in court. And also for compensatory damages.

Two good families lives ruined in an instant by one sad day.
